EVENT AGE RESTRICTIONS AND PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
Teetotal Traverse Half Marathon 21.1km
16+ years of age to compete in the 21.1km event.
Competitors to be able to cover a road half marathon in under 2hrs30min.
Due to performance requirements, we expect all competitors to attempt to run most of the course.
Big Bush Kākā Challenge 13km
14+ years of age to compete in the 13km event.
Competitors to be able to cover a road 10km in under 1hr30min.
Due to performance requirements, we expect all competitors to attempt to run most of the course.
Skating Pond Stride 8km
10+ years of age to compete in the 8km event.
Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
There is no performance standard for this event and competitors may run, walk or hybrid, any or all of the course.
DOC have advised that No Dogs are allowed for this Event.
CUT-OFF TIMES
We reserve the right to withdraw or divert any competitor at any time if they are making insufficient progress to reach the finish by 12:30.
COMPETITOR CHECK-IN AND RACE NUMBER PICK-UP
At Alpine Lodge from 7:45am. All competitors should arrive at Check-In no later than 45 minutes before their start time. The start line and briefing are 5 minutes walk from registration.
CARPARKING
Overflow car parking available at the old Clinker Cafe site on Beechnest Drive.
COURSE SUMMARY
Teetotal Traverse Half Marathon 21.1km
The course offers a mix of running terrains including technical single track, easier single track, gravel single track and a short section of forestry road. After 2km there is a 1km section that rises 220m which is the steepest part of the course. The second half of the course is easier but there are still a few short uphill pinches. If the course is wet, it will be muddy & slippery in places.
Big Bush Kākā Challenge 13km
The course offers a mix of running terrains including technical single track, easier single track & gravel single track. After 2km there is a 1km section that rises 220m which is the steepest part of the course. The second half of the course is easier terrain. If the course is wet, it will be muddy & slippery in places.
Skating Pond Stride 8km
The course offers a mix gravel & rougher single track, mostly flat with some easy undulations.
TOILETS
There are toilets located in Alpine Lodge, public toilets next to the Lake Rotoiti Community Hall on the main road, public toilets at Kerr Bay and at the DoC information centre.
There are toilets located on the course at the "Skating Rink" carpark 1.7km from the start/finish.
START & FINISH LINE
The start/finish line is on Beechnest Drive, a couple of minutes walk from Alpine Lodge.
EVENT BRIEFING
Race briefing will be held 5 minutes before each start at the start line. It is compulsory to attend the race briefing for your event.
CREW INSTRUCTIONS
You must follow the instructions of the Event Crew at all times.
AID STATIONS
All courses will be supported with aid stations. Aid stations will be at the following km marks and will be stocked with water:

4km & Finish
ENVIRONMENT & COMPULSORY GEAR
This event is being held in an Alpine area. It is your responsibility to ensure you have suitable gear available on the day to cover all eventualities. Competitors in the Teetotal Traverse Half Marathon 21.1km & Big Bush Kākā Challenge 13km must carry the compulsory gear of: Long Sleeve Thermal Top, Jacket, Whistle, Survival Blanket, Warm Hat & Gloves. We also advise competitors to consider carrying: water, food & small first aid kit. Competitors in the Skating Pond Stride 8km should be conscious of the weather and consider the list of gear above.
Ensure that your footwear is suitable for the Trails in the area.
Please ensure you carry enough medication for any conditions you have should you experience an injury. The event crew will hold details of any conditions at the marshalling points.
Any litter must be taken out and disposed of at the finish line.
PRIZEGIVING
At Alpine Lodge shortly after the last competitor has finished at approximately 12:30 - 1pm.
AWARDS & SPOT PRIZES
All performance prizes, spot prizes and major spot prizes are awarded at the prize-giving which will take place at approximately 12noon in Alpine Lodge. All competitors will be eligible for spot prizes and these will be randomly drawn at prize-giving.
Performance prizes will be awarded to 1st placing in each age group category for Men and Women in each event and will be based on participant's time. There will be no separate categories for runners, hybrids or walkers - performance prizes will be solely based on participant's time in their age group. The age group categories are as follows for men and women:
Teetotal Traverse Half Marathon 21.1km 16-19 years, 20-39 years, 40-49 years, 50-59 years, 60+ years.
Big Bush Kākā Challenge 13km 14-19 years, 20-39 years, 40-49 years, 50-59 years, 60+ years.
Skating Pond Stride 8km Under 14, 14-19 years, 20-39 years, 40-49 years, 50-59 years, 60+ years.
TIMING & RACE NUMBERS
The event will be timed. Competitors must wear their "Race Number" fully visible on their front at all times. There will be check points on the course where numbers are recorded.
LUNCH
Alpine Lodge are offering a pre-booked Pizza & Salad lunch at $25pp. This must be pre-booked when entering the event for yourself and any supporters. You can note dietary requirements (Vegan/Gluten Free) at point of order. The cut-off time for pre-ordering lunch for this event is midnight on Sunday 17 November 2024.
WITHDRAWAL & REFUNDS
Please note that we do not allow entries to be transferred to other competitors, other events or for future years. As we are a not-for-profit organisation, costs are incurred for each event and proceeds from our events go to good causes, no refunds will be given.
